We sure had fun at last Saturday’s wedding at the University Club of Chicago! We were in the Michigan room, which is beautifully decorated with wood paneling and ceiling paintings in a sort of Renaissance style. If you’re looking for a venue for your wedding, the University Club is a great choice, and we play weddings there frequently.

The bride and groom chose Our Love is Here to Stay for their bridal dance, followed by The Way You Look Tonight for a combined father/daughter and mother/son dance. Completely switching gears, we invited the rest of the guests to the dance floor with Let’s Get it Started by the Black Eyed Peas, which kicked off three straight hours of continuous music and dancing. At the end of the party, the groom commented to me that not only did their guests have a blast, but we looked like we did too. We always do, and I never have more fun than I do playing with our band!

Here’s what the bride had to say:

“Both Paul and I were thrilled with the way our wedding turned out. Everything ran smoothly, and everyone had a great time – we thank the Peter Hennes Orchestra for a large part of that. We keep getting comments from guests such as “what a great band!” “I have never had so much fun at a wedding!” and “the night just went by too fast.” Thanks for all that you did to help plan and execute an absolutely wonderful event!” – Elizabeth Galanis

Many of our friends commented that they had never heard such an amazing band at a wedding! From our favorites to our grandparents favorites, you had all generations cutting a rug! Many thanks!” – Susie Callahan-Dunn (Wedding at Racquet Club of Chicago)

“Amazing! Outstanding! We were completely impressed with your band. You truly made our wedding an unforgettable experience. One month later our friends and family are still raving about “our band.” Thank you for incorporating as many of our favorite songs as possible and for continuing to play well into the night! The guests wouldn’t stop dancing! Thank you, thank you, thank you!” – Kim and Hans Montgomery (Wedding at Drake Hotel)

“The orchestra was absolutely amazing – above and beyond our greatest expectations. Most people thought it was the best part of the wedding celebration. We received many, many compliments. I would not hesitate to give our highest recommendations to anyone who is looking for superior entertainment for their event. Thank you, Peter!!” – Nancy Radis (Wedding at Palmer House Hilton)

“Do you always have the same people in your band?” It’s a question I get a lot, and it’s a legitimate concern. Many bands don’t have regular personnel. Instead, when the band leader books a job, he calls several musicians and hires whoever happens to be available. This often occurs when the band leader doesn’t have enough work to offer the singers and players for them to want to make a full time commitment. It’s also very common with “second bands” (a band that’s part of a company, but isn’t their flagship band), or when a band leader or agent sends out several bands under the same name. Sometimes it’s just that the band leader doesn’t have very high standards! There are obvious disadvantages with this. The client may have loved the band’s demo, but has no clue what the band they’ve hired will sound like at their event. The musicians may have never even played together before!

When I started the Peter Hennes Orchestra, my goal was to have the best band in Chicago. This isn’t possible without extremely talented, enthusiastic, completely professional players who are fully committed. The level of musicianship required in our band is exceedingly high. We play music and arrangements that are unique to us, and we move seamlessly from one song to the next, which requires experienced musicians and singers who work well together as a unit. Besides the music, the “show” aspects of our performance require a group of people that are very familiar with each other and what the band is about. Having regular personnel allows us to achieve and maintain a level of quality that would simply be unattainable otherwise!
